Point of Care Specialist

Full Time, 40 hours per week, day shift, 8am to 4:
30pm, Monday through Friday
Summary:
Participates in point-of-care testing (POCT) activities.
Serves as a technical resource person for testing personnel.
Works under the general supervision and technical guidance of the Supervisor, POCT Services.
Works independently and communicates effectively with other healthcare professionals.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this document is to describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel as classified; it is not intended to serve as an inclusive list of all responsibilities associated with this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.

Participates in the evaluation, implementation, verification, and validation of new instrumentation.
Performs established instrument and reagent validation.

Prepares and revises procedure manuals and provides technical in-service, clinical orientation of new staff, and annual competency assessments for testing personnel.

Provides technical guidance and resolves problems associated with instrumentation, network hardware and software.

Performs laboratory testing which may require the broad exercise of independent judgment to include the use of advanced POCT and clinical laboratory instrumentation, data management systems and equipment.

Ensures that the department and client POCT programs maintain a state of continual compliance in accordance with applicable regulatory agencies.

Maintains reagent, quality control, and consumable inventory.
Orders reagents, consumables, and other supplies as required.

Reviews instrument maintenance records, conducts and reviews quality control, and institutes corrective action as needed.

Participates in the development and implementation of collaborative POCT projects and processes with HNL clients, prepares departmental reports, and attends meetings as assigned.

If qualified, (technologist) performs the duties of a CLIA general supervisor when the manager is not on site.

Actively participates in Quality Initiatives, continuing education programs, and research projects.

May perform all the duties as outlined in the technologist job description.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience :
Bachelors degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution; or have previously qualified or could have qualified as a technologist under 42 CFR 493.
1433 on or before February 28, 1992 (see attached summary).
Working knowledge of laboratory Performance Improvement processes is recommended.
Experience in design, development implementation of Performance Improvement processes is required.
Language Ability :
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
Math Ability :
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability :
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills :
Ability to use Microsoft Office products and various other software including the Laboratory Information System.
Certificates and Licenses :
Certification by a recognized certifying agency for clinical laboratory professionals preferred (ASCP, ASMT, NCA, etc).
Required Experience Recommended Skills Accounting Assessments Biology Clinical Laboratory Science Clinical Works Communication Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
