Join a progressive and experienced team of 6 dosimetrists and 5 physicists covering 4 sites. Varian eclipse 16.1 is utilized as our primary treatment planning system with the addition of Velocity for dose deformation and image fusion. In addition, Radformation applications such as clear check, EZ Fluence, and Auto Contour are used to assist in the speed and accuracy of contouring, planning, and plan evaluation. Addaptive 3D bolus software is also utilized to create custom 3D bolus. 10 Eclipse GPU FAS servers has been instituted to speed the process of calculations and decrease the time needed for optimization of planning. At St. Luke s we operate 5 Varian Linear Accelerators and 1 Varian Ethos Linac with adaptive planning and treatments. We also have 4 wide bore GE CT simulators with the capability to perform MAR protocols for metal artifact. JOB DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:

  • Following the dose prescription specified by the Radiation Oncologist, plans a treatment technique by means of a computer and/or manual computations that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose to a defined tumor volume.
  • Coordinates and/or assists in treatment simulations and tumor localizations, including computed tomography and MRI, when indicated, for radiation treatment planning.
  • Assists in the planning of the fabrication of compensating filters, custom shields, planning or production of molds, casts, and immobilization devices.
  • Responsible for successful technical continuity of care, including assisting the technical staff in the implementation of the treatment plan.
  • Performs dosage calculation in the patient s radiation therapy chart and verifies mathematical accuracy of all calculations using a system established by a medical physicist.
  • Provides technical assistance to the medical physicist, when requested, in radiation protection, qualitative and quantitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance of the radiation equipment.
  • Assists in the application of specific methods of dosimetry (ion chamber, TLD, or film) to special clinical problems.
  • Assists in intra-cavitary and interstitial sealed source procedures and in the subsequent manual and/or computer calculation of the dose distributions of these procedures.
  • Practices safe protection for self and patients adhering to the guidelines of radiation protection and infection control.
  • Detects equipment malfunctions and takes appropriate action.
  • Provides education regarding radiation therapy procedures to patients and family.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned area, making sure all equipment and supplies necessary for that area are readily available for use.
  • Assists in gathering, recording data, and serving as committee members for radiation.
  • Oncology Quality Assurance and Continuous Quality Improvement Programs.
  • Teaches trains and provides educational resources for student Radiation Dosimetrists & Therapists and assists in the evaluation process of the students.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Provides emotional support for patients and family members. Directs patients and family members to appropriate personnel and agencies for additional support.

Assists in radiation therapy treatment procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Graduate of a formal university, college, or hospital-based Dosimetry program of nine months duration or longer, or both of the following:

  • A registered Radiation Therapist with a minimum 5 years radiation therapy experience, to subsequently, after hire, receive on-the- job training in Dosimetry for 12 months and one additional year of practical, supervised experience in radiation therapy Dosimetry.

  • A degree in the physical or biological sciences with on-the-job training in Dosimetry for 12 months under the supervision of a Medical Dosimetrist, Medical Physicist, or Radiation Oncologist, and one additional year of practical, supervised experience in radiation therapy Dosimetry.

Must be CMD certified within two years of eligibility.

TRAINING AND
Experience:
One year dosimetry experience preferred. Ongoing training in departmental procedures provided.

WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday through Friday. Day shift. Hours dependent upon department

schedule. Overtime as needed.

PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Frequent use of fingers to operate computer. Sitting for up to 7 hours per day, in 30 minute increments. Frequent use of hands for chart handling and writing. Twisting and turning of hands to operate equipment. Lifts treatment aids weighing up to 50 pounds. Carries objects of up to 50 pounds. Occasionally stoops and bends. Reaches above shoulder level. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general vision and depth perception and visual monotony
