Tribune Publishing is seeking a full-time HR coordinator to support the HR Director that oversees the Human Resources function for The Baltimore Sun, The Hartford Courant, The Morning Call and The Daily Press in recruitment, employee relations, and training and development as well as other projects. This person will work out of The Morning Call office in Allentown, PA and will provide back-up support for The Morning Call local HR team.
The HR Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative and program assistance and performing general Human Resources administrative tasks. This person also provides answers or solutions as necessary to inquiries from employees and other HR team members.
The coordinator's key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the following:
Works with assigned HR team to provide general administrative support as needed. Such work can include creating reports, research and data analysis, exit packages, basic employee relations assistance, and other key tasks and projects as assigned
Applies in-depth knowledge of key HR systems and programs (e.g., benefits enrollment, performance review events, engagement survey) to support Total Rewards program administration
Works with training and development team to coordinate virtual and on-site training set-up
Works closely with recruiters and management to help administer hiring process, including processing career postings, screening perspective candidates, scheduling phone or onsite interviews for managers, coordinating distribution of candidate credentials, administering background check or drug testing as appropriate and preparing offer letters
Coordinates onboarding process and conducts new hire orientation, including I-9 verification
Responsible for maintenance of key reports (i.e. succession planning, training surveys, training, feedback, etc.)
Schedules and coordinates meetings, makes travel arrangements, handles reimbursement of expenses, prepares organization charts, etc.
Orders and maintains office supplies for HR staff
Responsible for records administration, including maintaining employee files, pulling files for project work and ensuring former employee files are stored properly
Coordinates assigned projects such as recognition programs, flu shots, etc. and posting communication for such programs
The well-qualified candidate must have the following :
A bachelor's degree
2+ years of hands on experience in one or more HR functions with understanding and application of related regulations and best practices with a mid- to large-sized employer
Expertise in common office software and applications, especially Microsoft Office, and fluent in use of HR systems, applications and software (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workday, Talentwise, TALX, iCIMS, and eVerify), including running basic reports
Ability to read and understand information, extract, compile or input data to and from reports or systems accurately and with attention to detail
Needs to be a capable communicator, both verbally and in writing, to support positive Tribune employer branding
Requires a customer focus and service attitude, toward internal client managers and to meet external/internal job applicants' needs
Must exercise good judgment and problem-solving skills; must be experienced in handling confidential information appropriately and taking initiative to solve problems, maintain/improve processes, get answers to questions and maintain confidence in dealing with a variety of different parties

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
