The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Resolves or assists with complaints, misunderstandings, and inquiries related to insurance coverage or billing issues. Evaluate patients for Financial Assistance Program and obtain all necessary financial documentation to support eligibility on All Self Pay Accounts Answering Financial Counseling Phone line and taking off messages daily Communication and/or updating of correct patient information to appropriate staff (s) and departments (s). Accurate and timely verification of third party payers. Ongoing application of all billing requirements and/or regulations. Evaluation of patients for charity care program. Obtaining all necessary financial documentation to support eligibility. Research for alternative government funding programs. Demonstrates/models the hospital core values and customer service behaviors in interactions with all customers. Ensures patients are treated with dignity and compassion. Overall knowledge of the business office procedures. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Other related duties as assigned. Preferred bilingual (Spanish)
EDUCATION: High school graduate required or equivalent.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: One year third party billing experience in a hospital, similar medical facility or physician's office preferred. PC experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology desired. Excellent communication skills and ability to problem solve and work independently.
WORK SCHEDULE: Day shift with varying hours based on the needs of the department.
PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for up to 8 hours per day, 4 hours at a time. Consistent use of hands and fingers for data entry, typing, telephones, etc. Occasional twisting and turning. Uses upper extremities to lift and carry up to 10 pounds. Stoops, bends, and reaches above the shoulder level to retrieve files. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation and telephone. Seeing as it relates to general vision. Visual monotony when reading reports and viewing computer screen.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
