Supervisory Safety and Occupational Health Specialist

Oversees the operations and operating efficiency of a multi-disciplinary group of Industrial Hygienists, Safety and Occupational Health Specialists and/or Safety Engineers, providing technical and administrative guidance and oversight. Interviews candidates for vacant positions and makes recommendations for selection; recommends promotions, reassignments, awards, training and other career development opportunities; hears and resolves employee complaints to the extent possible; effects disciplinary actions, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending action to the Area Director in more serious cases; approves leave requests from employees supervised. Develops performance standards for subordinates; prepares and signs performance appraisals on employees supervised. Distributes and balances the workload, makes adjustments when appropriate and directs the group in the accomplishment of work. Reviews case files of employees to ensure proper application of standards and proposed penalties as well as reasonable abatement dates for correction of hazards and documentation that is legally sufficient and consistent with OSHA policies and directives. Conducts informal conferences and negotiates settlement agreements relative to safety and health inspections. Leads investigations involving the most difficult and complex cases involving workplace fatalities and catastrophes, high risk operations, imminent danger, non-existent or inadequate standards where use of the 5(a) (1) general duty clause would be required. Works with the Regional Solicitor in developing cases under contest and coordinates appearances at hearings and other venues for employees supervised; as required, serves as a witness before judicial hearings and trials, including criminal investigations, providing technical expertise in occupational safety and health. Negotiates with appropriate employer and/or employee representatives to minimize labor management conflict or to obtain immediate cooperation in imminent danger situations. Represents OSHA at meetings of employer or labor organizations, trade associations and other groups interested in safety and health; informs employers and employees of their rights and responsibilities under the OSH Act; promotes voluntary compliance and informs the public of any changes and developments in the field. Operates a motor vehicle to travel to inspection sites. Serves as Acting Area Director when required. All applicants must have at one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12, in the Federal Service which demonstrates the particular knowledge skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include:
- Thorough knowledge of safety and occupational health standards in both construction and general industry;- A thorough knowledge of and ability to analyze, identify and eliminate/control safety and occupational health hazards in both construction and general industry;- Experience conducting in-depth occupational accident investigations and inspections in a broad variety of work settings including:
industrial, commercial, construction, manufacturing. general industry, etc. Experience in conducting accident/incident investigations/investigations is defined as investigative experience which involved using tools such as face-to-face interviews, taking photos, videos, measurements and diagrams, and the review and analysis of data and records in order to reconstruct the events that led to the accident/incident and determine the cause of the accident; and document findings. Supervisory Qualification Requirements:

Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected within set limits of resource and time. Ability to effectively plan and carry out assignments of your own as well as for others. Ability to communicate with others effectively both orally and in writing and working out solutions to problems or questions relating to the work. Ability to understand and further manage goals as these effect day-to-day work operations. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
