LEAD MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT

Duties include and are not limited to:
Assuring coverage of all areas of responsibility Conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work Ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments Provides guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures Distributing and balancing workload Creating and maintaining employee work schedules Orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees Ensuring all training requirements are met Organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas Assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs Works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model and/or specialty clinics to perform all related duties Knowledge of multiple systems and current computer technology regarding imaging applications, PC Fax applications, and numerous VistA, wrist bands, and other, applications in order to instruct and assist MSA's at a lower level Knowledge of VHA Directives Knowledge of eligibility for VA medical care, priorities for care, release of information, Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Laws, and the Medical Fee Basis programs Technical competency in the use of the Vista and CPRS systems Work Schedule:

MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, paragraph 3.j. Experience and Education:
Experience. Six months of experience of clerical, office, customer service, or other administrative work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR Education. One year above high school; OR Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations:
GS-7, Lead Medical Support Assistant Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include:
providing expert administrative patient support; using numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model; coordinating with patient care team to review clinic appointment availability to ensure that clinic schedules are closely monitored; communicating with non-VA medical facilities; preparing correspondence to notify patients of normal lab results; managing system for follow-up care such as consults tests; etc. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities (KSAs). Candidates must demonstrate all of the KSAs below:
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community resources. Ability to utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics in an interdisciplinary setting. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines. Skill in communicating with individuals to obtain the desired effect and coordinating with a variety of interdisciplinary care team staff. Ability to provide staff development and training. Ability to manage staffing requirements, manage workflow priorities, and adjust the flow of work to meet team and patient needs. This includes the ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of incomplete work across multiple clinics References:

The work is primarily sedentary, but may require some walking, standing, bending, stooping, stretching, and carrying objects such as papers, books, and files/binders. Work also requires spending time performing keyboarding duties.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
