Registered Nurse - Mental Health Clinic (Allentown)

The incumbent will be responsible for directing and delivering quality nursing care to a culturally diverse Veteran population with mental health needs. She/he will exhibit excellent leadership skills through charge nurse duties by directing patient care, patient flow, and staff assignments, and will be expected to effectively communicate and interact with patients and their families in order to help them with problem solving and developing coping skills. Further, she/he will participate with interdisciplinary treatment planning processes; conduct nursing clinics and group processes; and provide collaborative training to newly hired staff at the Mental Health Clinic. The selected candidate must maintain an active Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification. In the scope of clinical responsibilities, she/he will; Interview patients, obtains vital signs, and prepare patients for visit with provider; Evaluate the patient's needs, latent abilities, and social networks; screen and identify patients for appropriate case management, provides health assessments, and facilitates access to appropriate health care based on patients' needs. Conduct telephone triage and provide the necessary patient direction and education. Function as patient educator with an emphasis on preventative health and wellness topics and disease specific initiatives. Administer and document medication; monitor lab data and diagnostic testing, and report findings to the Medical Director accordingly. Complete all clinical reminders, assist with appointment scheduling, patient follow-up and discharge follow-up as necessary. Provide immediate nursing intervention in all emergency situations and be able to make emergent decisions regarding the safety of the patient, staff, and others as well as decisively respond to emergent situations involving suicidal or violent patients. Serve as liaison for medical and/or psychiatric concerns and initiate referrals as necessary. Function within established protocols including strict adherence to infection control policies. Implement health promotions and preventative interventions, manages acute and chronic illness states, assists patients in the attainment of optimal levels of functionality through rehabilitation and other supportive measures. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred
Qualifications:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse combined with at least two (2) years' experience with mental health and/or substance abuse treatment and Outpatient Clinic experience. Strong organizational and decision-making skills with a proven ability to communicate and interact effectively with staff, patients, families and interdisciplinary groups. Grade Determinations:
The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
