Vehicle Description General Motors was founded by William C.
Durant on September 16, 1908, as a holding company for Buick.
In 1909, GM purchased the Rapid Motor Vehicle Company of Pontiac, Michigan, forming the basis of the General Motors Truck Company, from which the GMC Truck brand name was derived.
The Reliance Motor Car Company (another independent manufacturer) was also purchased that same year by GM.
Rapid and Reliance were merged in 1911, and in 1912 the marque GMC Truck first appeared on vehicles exhibited at the New York International Auto Show.
Later GMC would become distinct as a division brand within the corporation, branding trucks and coaches; in contrast, the abbreviation for the overall corporation eventually ended up as GM.
GMC was positioned a step above Chevrolet, and ads touted it as 'Top of the Light-Duty Class.
' The new-for-1955 GMC styling was billed as 'Blue Chip Design'.
The 1956 GMC styling was virtually unchanged from 1955 and features sleek sides, unique taillights, and a panoramic windshield.
RB Collection is incredibly pleased to offer this rare and meticulously restored 1956 GMC - Model 250.
Beautifully presented in Siminole Brown and Panama Cream over the same color combination interior, this truck is an extremely rare find and equipped with the new option - 1956 Hydra-Matic transmission and a long cargo bed.
The restoration presents in gorgeous condition having seen no use since it was completed.
The interior is also restored to factory-correct standards with no details to be mentioned.
Other options include the Heater Box under the dash.
This truck runs extremely well, with good pull from the standard 270-cc engine and 130 horsepower that looks to be original based on all numbers stamped on the engine.
The chassis and undercarriage are in incredibly good order as well; clean, tidy, and solid with no corrosion.
The sale of this car represents a rare opportunity to acquire a rare and highly desirable GMC truck.
