Vehicle Description 1956 AUSTIN-HEALEY 100 BN2 The Austin-Healey was born out of the combination of Donald Healey's vision of a sports car that would be more affordable than the Jaguar XK120 and offer better performance than the MG TC, and Leonard Lord's need for a sports car to sell in America that could make use of the production capacity and four-cylinder engine no longer needed by the idled Austin America.
At its announcement, the Healey 100 was the sensation of the 1952 London Motor Show, but it is doubtful if anyone at that time anticipated the enduring admiration and affection it would command through the following three decades up to the present date.
Between 1953 and 1956, a total of 10,000 BN1s and 4,500 BN2s were manufactured, with the BN1s outnumbering the BN2s by a ratio of 2:
1.
Both equipped with a water-cooled four-cylinder 2660cc engine, but the BN2 adopting the four-speed/overdrive gearbox.
The Austin-Healey is a genuine sports-car, providing exceptional performance and stamina, coupled with a very high degree of controllability.
This exquisite Austin-Healey BN2 was restored in 2013, less than 5,000 miles ago, to its original colors of Carmine Red and Black trim.
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate reveals it is an original US-market car, completed on 2 November 1955, and equipped from new with Heater.
This Austin-Healey is presented in excellent condition overall, with straight body panels, good gaps, and high-quality paintwork.
Doors are properly aligned and shut with a solid, satisfying feel.
As expected of a high-level restoration, the chrome and trim are in excellent condition, showing no pits, corrosion, or dings.
Inside, the Black with Red trim upholstery is in outstanding condition.
Seats and top show no signs of wear or any damage, appearing fresh and unworn since the restoration.
Equipped with the famous wire wheels, this Healey has tremendous presence, particularly with the iconic windscreen folded flat against the cowl.
Under the hood is the original 2,660 cc engine (#1B/229213) matched with a four-speed transmission with full operational overdrive.
This vehicle performs great, with a perfect operational quick-acting overdrive unit, offering all the thrills of a true sports car with quick response and superior handling.
The sale of the vehicle includes a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate; set of tools, including case and hammer; and Jaguar operating, all maintenance records since 1985.
This is a rare opportunity of acquiring a beautifully restored and documented Austin-Healy BN2.
